As you may know, after hearing about the University of Tennessee’s plan to demolish the University Center parking garage, I took it upon myself to archive it. For the past two years I’ve explored, investigated and photographed what many see as “just a parking garage”. What I found was a parking garage…but one that seemed more than what it actually was. Bob Church, the architect, designed it to serve as both parking garage and as a pedestrian walk way for students to socialize. The spirit of the spaces within the parking garage transcended the mundane nature of the program.
I will be adding a “Parking Garage Archive” section shortly. For now enjoy the Before/After images below.
You can now view photographs of the parking garage before it’s destruction Here. Post demolition photographs are coming soon!
